Skin Doctor

Dermatologists are medical doctors who focus on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the skin, hair and nails. There are several different types of dermatology, including medical, surgical, cosmetic and dermatopathology.

  • Medical Dermatology: Diagnose, treat and prevent diseases that affect the skin, hair, and nails.
  • Dermatopathology: Diagnose diseases that affect the skin, hair, and nails, by removing a sample and examining it with a microscope.
  • Surgical Dermatology: Treat diseases that affect the skin, hair, and nails, by using a surgical procedure.
  • Cosmetic Dermatology: Treat the skin, hair, or nails, using a treatment that is meant to improve a patient's appearance rather than treat a disease.

Some examples of treatments cosmetic dermatologists perform are:

  • Surgery to diminish acne scars.
  • Injecting Fillers and Botulinum Toxins to get a youthful appearance.
  • Laser surgery to diminish or remove small veins, age spots, tattoos, or wrinkles.

Botulinum toxin therapy

is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments available.

The dermatologist injects Botulinum Toxin into targeted muscles on the face or neck. This temporarily relaxes the targeted muscles, causing fine lines and wrinkles to diminish. The effect lasts about three to four months (sometimes longer). People of all colors and skin types have been treated with Botulinum Toxin therapy. If you are interested in this treatment, you should consult a dermatologist.

Fillers are also very popular.

Fillers are also very popular.

The procedure varies with the filler your dermatologist will use, the part of the body to be treated, and your medical history. Most filler treatments take between 15 and 30 minutes and require one office visit. Your dermatologist will inject the filler into the desired area, often giving you several injections to produce the best results. Most fillers offer temporary results and require repeat treatments. However, depending on the type of filler, results can last anywhere from two months to several years.
